Comparative Analysis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and European Union Strategy on Central Asia: Confrontation or Cooperation?

In 2021, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) turned 20 years old. With “Shanghai Spirit” as its guiding principle, scope of SCO’s activity has significantly expanded, recently adding India and Pakistan to members. As a result, SCO policy heavily influenced Central Asia region. response, in 2019, EU launched new strategy for Asia, adopting “connectivity” core concept. both strategies tend conflict with each other, thus leading uneven inconsistent development Therefore, this paper aims identify contradictions between principle EU’s concept by comparing toward Asia. The methodology involves qualitative comparative method, including two case studies, represented their on article concludes that contestation policies impedes stable region, therefore, compromise is suggested.
